Wonderware United Kingdom a division within SolutionsPT Limited today announced that Wonderware Lake Forest, Calif., USA, received the “Global Honours Partner” award from Intermec, a leading provider of mobile data capture and computing solutions including RFID readers.
As part of the partner award, Wonderware was named “Technology Innovator of the Year” for SRM-3 technology built into the Wonderware IntelaTrac mobile solution. The award recognizes Wonderware as an Intermec partner that demonstrates the innovative use of Intermec technology to deliver productive supply chain solutions.

The Wonderware SRM-3 technology is integrated with Intermec’s CK61 Windows mobile handheld computer which offers an RFID data capture solution for harsh environments. The handheld vertical reader is designed for rugged mobile computing and data collection systems, bar code printers, label media and RFID tags.

“It’s rewarding to work with channel partner offerings that represent a significant achievement in integrating our technologies to best serve our mutual customers,” said Natalie Silvesti, director of channel marketing for Intermec. “Wonderware IntelaTrac is an industry leading mobile workforce and decision-support system that can make a major impact on the ability of customers to effectively use Intermec handheld mobile devices to monitor and manage equipment in the field and those operating in hazardous environments.”

Wonderware developers co-designed the SRM-3 technology with Intermec to offer an integrated RFID solution for customers that uses low frequency RFID 134.2 kHz technology to manage equipment in the field. There are more than 200,000 RFID tags being used at Wonderware IntelaTrac customer sites around the world. These applications span multiple vertical markets including oil and gas, chemicals, pulp and paper, and utilities.

Customer sites use RFID tags to identify and manage equipment assets and validate inspections to meet stringent environmental and process safety regulatory compliance. Wonderware IntelaTrac users also are able to take advantage of a patented Universal Data Tag format which enables users to not only read, but also to write data back to the RFID tag for future reference and monitoring needs.

“Used in conjunction with Wonderware IntelaTrac, customers can take their Intermec CK61 devices into the field to read the RFID tags on various equipment assets, record data from the RFID tag and store in a central database for future reference for monitoring and maintenance,” said Don Frieden, vice president for Wonderware Mobile Solutions. “What also is unique about the SRM-3 design is its ability to record data to hazardous-rated mobile devices. There are very few offerings of RFID technology that have been rated for use in hazardous environments such as areas of explosive gases. We recognized the customer need for RFID readers in these types of settings and developed an effective solution with Intermec.”
