Spelsberg has introduced a range of IP65 ‘ready to run’ thermostats that are ideal for pipe or vessel trace heating and general temperature maintenance in Industrial Processing applications where extreme temperatures can be encountered.

Spelsberg has introduced the HT range of Thermostats for Industrial Process applications. The robust, mechanical thermostats come ready encased in one of Spelsberg’s IP66 protected TK range of enclosures. The units are delivered ready assembled guaranteeing protection from ingress and severe temperatures. The range removes the hassle of specifying separate parts and avoids the costs and times that can be associated with installation.

When specifying thermostats for Industrial Processing it is important that protection from the surrounding environment is considered as well as the accuracy of the thermostat. Specifying a separate enclosure that will fit the application, correctly house the thermostat and offer the correct degree of thermal and ingress protection can be time consuming and costly. Installing the thermostats correctly to ensure all protection is maintained is also a precision job that, if done incorrectly, could lead to catastrophic failures.

The HT series from Spelsberg removes assembly and specification costs as units are ready assembled to operate in the harsh conditions found in Industrial Processing. A precise and robust, mechanically adjustable thermostat is used with operating temperature controls ranging from 0-40 degrees C, 30-120 degrees C, 35-210 and 50-320 degrees C. It is housed in one of Spelsberg’s TK range of enclosures; a clamping cable gland is used to guarantee the seal through which the probe enters the enclosure.

Chris Lloyd, Sales and Marketing Manager for Spelsberg UK, comments: “Thermostats for Industrial Processing need to be well protected to guarantee reliable operation. It can be difficult to specify an enclosure that meets all the requirements and doesn’t necessitate lengthy installation times. The HT series of thermostats delivers a complete package that performs accurately; the lower temperature range is ideal for frost protection for water systems while the higher ranges have been designed to suit most Industrial Process applications.”

Recent application examples include the use of trace heating on emergency safety showers for chemical spills in processing plants; due to recent changes in legislation the water now has to be kept tepid so as to not send the user into shock by dropping gallons of near freezing water on them. Another example involved an aggressive alkaline environment which meant that the TK Polystyrene material option was essential as Polystyrene is resistant to alkaline environments.

All the thermostats in the HT range are Ingress Protected up to IP65 with halogen-free, UV protected polycarbonate or polystyrene enclosures, making them ideal for outdoor use Options include neon lights for status indication and clear polycarbonate lids to further aid visibility. Bespoke enclosure solutions are available, ensuring that the correct enclosure and thermostat temperature range are correct to customer specifications.
