The new headquarters consist of a 3,000 square metre office wing, a 6,000 square metre production hall and a 1,300 square metre automatic high rack warehouse. The new facilities enable NKE to have better manufacturing capacities, including a “small-lot production”, as well as more efficient logistics. „With the new works we can double our capacity and are significantly more flexible“, says Heimo Ebner, NKE’s commercial Managing Director, about the benefits of the new plant. NKE has access to a 35,000 square metre lot in the industrial park Stadtgut Steyr which will secure long-term expansion plans. NKE plans to increase the workforce in Steyr from currently 180 people to about 230 in the next three to five years.
Due to the company’s fast expansion, the fourth extension of the old site in Steyr-Gleink was planned in 2007. However, considering the fact that the old location would limit long-term development, NKE’s management decided to build a new production plant in the industrial park Stadtgut Steyr. “Eventually the soft facts made us decide for Steyr”, says Heimo Ebner. “Seventy percent of our employees come from Steyr and the brand NKE is closely connected with Steyr.”
At its Steyr base in Austria, bearing specialist NKE employs 180 people, offering both standard and special bearings for all industrial applications. In addition to product development and application engineering, NKE provides a full range of technical services and training. NKE’s products are distributed through 15 international representative offices and more than 240 distribution outlets in 60 countries.
