New Edbro CX14 Cylinder Generates up to £8,000 Extra Payload
The new CX14, due to be launched by Edbro at Tip-Ex 2010 in Harrogate, has impressed the major UK operators trialling the product.
Tarmac Transport Supervisor, Bill Willocks, has had a CX14 running in his fleet since 2008 and said, “The CX14 has delivered the usual Edbro quality and has lived up to the “fit & forget” reputation we have come to expect.”
Lafarge are currently running a weight saving initiative driven by National Transport Manager, Nick Elliott who explains, “We have set up a joint project between the various suppliers who contribute towards an 8x4 tipper vehicle. The overall goal is to achieve a 21 tonne payload. This will result in improved revenue for hauliers, an increase in the efficiency of our fleet, a reduction of our carbon footprint, which is an important part of our overall sustainability strategy and something which is becoming increasingly significant in winning major contracts.

“Innovation is an important part of our business. We were therefore very pleased that the suppliers and bodybuilders have come up with an array of innovations to drive the overall chassis weight down, thus increasing the potential payload. Edbro’s CX14 has helped us make a massive step towards our goal.”
Danny Broomfield, Sales Manager for Edbro said “When Lafarge asked us to look at their ideas it couldn’t have been better timed with the work we had already undertaken to develop the CX14. We have always recognised the importance of supplying lightweight reliable equipment into tough operating environments and jumped at the opportunity to support this initiative.”
Nick Elliott went on to say, “A large number of our hauliers operate Edbro gear and those offered the CX14 as part of this project have grabbed the opportunity with both hands. The Edbro product has well proven reliability supported by the largest network of service back up giving our hauliers complete peace of mind.

CX14 Key Product Features:
• Field trials with several large UK fleets over the last 2 years including Cemex, Lafarge, Mahers, Park Royal and Tarmac
• Cylinders subjected to arduous testing process including cycle tests, side load resistance and over-pressuring
• Additional cylinder weight saving of 58 kg against Edbro CX15 which is already up to 165 kg lighter than competitor products
• Actual complete CX14 kit weight saving approximately 70 kg against Edbro CX15
• Total saving of up to 230 kg against competitor products for the same application generating up to £8,000 additional income over the life of the vehicle
• Weight savings can be calculated as follows:

0.230 tonnes x 5 loads per day = 1.15 tonnes extra payload per day
1.15 tonnes x 5 days = 5.75 tonnes extra payload per week
5.75 tonnes x 48 weeks = 276 tonnes extra payload per year
276 tonnes x £5 rate per tonne = £1,380 additional income per year
£1,380 x 6 year chassis life - £8,280 additional income during the life of the chassis
WEIGHT SAVING OF MORE THAN £8,000 PER VEHICLE
