Everything you need to know in 'THE BIG GREEN BOOK'

Now available in the UK, a staple resource of German industry has made this move to help design engineers adapt to an increasingly changing role in industry. norelem, has released its BIG GREEN BOOK in the UK, as in addition to profiling the company’s 33,000 individual standard parts relating to standard machinery and operating elements, the book also acts as an invaluable reference guide for design engineers, mechanical engineers, machine builders and toolmakers.

THE BIG GREEN BOOK has already become a useful resource throughout wider Europe, and particularly in Germany where it has been released every year since 2003. The book has become the definitive guide to standard components, not only highlighting norelem’s extensive range of manufactured products, but also including advice, component dimensions, drawings, fits, tolerances and standards, giving design engineers everything they want to turn their ideas into reality.

Marcus Schneck, CEO of norelem, believes THE BIG GREEN BOOK will become a vital tool for engineers in the UK to help them become more efficient in their daily work with the right use of standardised components, at a time when the responsibilities of a design engineer are continuing to change.

He commented: “Design and mechanical engineers are starting to play a larger role in the overall value chain of a company and as such, are becoming more responsible for determining the cost and application of a company’s products.

“THE BIG GREEN BOOK not only showcases the many ways that norelem can partner with engineering businesses to deliver standard components, but it also includes information and best practice advice, showing them how they can turn our standard components into effective solutions for everyday use. This can be applied for anything from a more efficient machine design to a student-led project such as a solar driven water desalination plant.”

norelem advocates that there are a number of ways design engineers can save costs in the design process, and produce more effective engineering solutions, through the use of standard components. Not only do parts such as clamps, fasteners, and aluminum profiles lower design and production costs when compared to alternative solutions, but they also accommodate a quicker assembly time. The purpose of THE BIG GREEN BOOK is to inspire engineers through norelem’s impressive product range, to engineer the most practical, efficient, and cost effective engineering solutions for every application.

Schneck continued: “THE BIG GREEN BOOK has grown exponentially since we released the first edition back in 2003. That only held details of 16,000 parts, whereas the latest version we have just released to the UK includes details of 33,000 parts held to stock, with more than 3,000 of these novelties. It also reflects our growing range of standardised components including our new drive technology, quarter turn locks, and aluminum profiles, which not only offer design engineers cost effective and practical design solutions, but which come backed with the technical expertise and support of norelem, a business which has over 50 years’ experience, taking ideas and making them happen.”
