The University of Birmingham has launched a global search to appoint up to 50 Birmingham Fellows to enhance the University’s existing academic strengths and to contribute to a growing culture of collaboration.
The Birmingham Fellowships represent a major investment in early-career researchers of the very highest calibre. The Fellowship scheme will enable these outstanding post-doctoral researchers to establish themselves as rounded academics who will become the next generation of research and academic leaders at Birmingham.

The Fellowships will last for five years and lead to permanent academic posts at the University. Fellows will be mentored by senior members of the academy and provided with a tailored package of financial and development support to become leading independent researchers and PhD supervisors.

As the five-year term progresses, Fellows will be given the opportunity to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

Professor Adam Tickell, the University of Birmingham’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Transfer, said, ‘This is a very exciting time for Birmingham. We are delighted to be able to hire such a large cohort of outstanding post-doctoral researchers. This is a prestigious opportunity for early-career scholars from around the world to join a vibrant academic community and to establish their academic careers at Birmingham. Birmingham Fellows will be the most outstanding early-career researchers of this generation, and we fully expect them to become the academic and research leaders of tomorrow.’

The University welcomes and will fast-track applications from candidates with independent fellowships from research councils, the Royal Society and other funding bodies.
