AEG Power Solutions has announced that it has been selected to provide 25 UPS systems for the Tempa Rossa onshore oilfield in Italy. The facility's main engineering, procurement and construction contractor, Tecnimont, has chosen AEG to provide the complete power supply for the site, consisting of four DC UPS systems, 15 AC UPS systems and six combined AC and DC systems.

Tecnimont selected a combination of AEG Power Solutions’ Protect 8 UPS, its Protect 8 inverter, and the Protect RCS rectifier, which was specified as the Three-Phase Rectifier (TPRe) model. AEG has also provided customised bypass panels, as well as Ni-Cd batteries and moulded case circuit breaker boxes for battery protection.

AEG worked closely with Tecnimont during the technical project analysis and clarification, helping to finalise important points of the project and propose possible solutions. AEG PS battery expertise made a major difference allowing the final customer to save money on batteries costs and maintenance.

“Having started to build a relationship with AEG Power Solutions during the procurement process, we could see that they had the technical excellence and experience required - as well as the best product range,” says Paolo Mondo, Maire Tecnimont Group Procurement VP. “We were confident that AEG Power Solutions was the right choice to provide these mission-critical UPS systems.”

“Tempa Rossa is a major project, that places tough demands on the UPS and other electrical systems to operate in a harsh environment,” says Alberto Dall'Asta, Sales Director in Italy. “We are delighted that Tecnimont has recognised how our industrial product range can meet its requirements for a reliable, flexible solution.”

Total and its partners Shell and Mitsui are currently developing Tempa Rossa, one of the biggest ever oil and gas projects in Italy; it is expected in 2016 to produce 50,000 barrels a day of oil, as well as 230,000m³/d of natural gas and 240tons/d of liquefied petroleum gas and 80tons/d of sulphur.
