Thermo Fisher Scientific Ships its 300th ARL 4460 Metals Analyzer with SMS-2000 Automation to Tata Steel India

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. announces that Tata Steel, the largest private sector steel company in India and the 6th largest steel producer in the world, has selected the Thermo Scientific ARL 4460 Optical Emission metals analyzer with SMS-2000 automation for their LD1 steel melting shop at Jamshedpur, Jharkhand State, India. This purchase marks a milestone achievement for Thermo Fisher, resulting in the 300th customer order of the ARL SMS-2000 system and the first to be sold in India.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Ships its 500th iCAP 6000 Series ICP Emission Spectrometer to Boeing

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc is pleased to announce that the 500th iCAP 6000 ICP emission spectrometer produced at its facility in Cambridge, UK has been shipped to Boeing. The instrument has been purchased by Boeing for use at its Frederickson facility in Washington State, USA. It will be used in the quality assurance laboratory to monitor the contents of chemical tanks used in the production of aluminum wings and other structural components. The Thermo Scientific iCAP 6000 will be analyzing traces of metals including copper and iron in the tanks which range in capacity from 34,000 to 59,000 gallons. This analysis is indicative of the ‘health’ of the tanks and is a key step in the QA processes.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Launches ARL 9900 Series X-ray WorkStation Integrating XRF and Full XRD in a Single Instrument

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. has made another important development in the area of X-ray analysis for industrial and central laboratories carrying out materials characterization and quality control analyses. For the first time, the new Thermo Scientific ARL 9900 Series X-ray Workstation combines full X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) into a single instrument, bringing increased productivity and reduced cost of ownership to the laboratory. It is now possible to perform a complete elemental (chemical) analysis and determine the mineral or structural composition on the same sample under vacuum with one single X-ray instrument.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. announces that its iCAP 6500 spectrometer was employed by Shell Global Solutions in the mobile laboratory at the 24 hour Le Mans race 2007. The Thermo Scientific iCAP 6500 spectrometer is part of the award-winning Thermo Scientific iCAP 6000 series of ICP emission spectrometers. Designed for a wide range of industries and specifically suited to the needs of general and elemental analysis laboratories in the petrochemical industry, the iCAP 6500 features a unique radial plasma, ideal for testing the condition of car engine oils, lubricants and hydraulic fluids.
