New Compact Voice Coil Driven Stage

New Compact Voice Coil Driven Stage
Steinmeyer, Inc. announced a new dynamic high precision, stage, driven by a voice coil linear motor. The application is a proprietary bio-medical device used for cell manipulation and testing. With an overall foot print of just 80 mm wide, 50 mm high and 145 mm long, the compact table weighs just 1 kg. It is available with a choice of two travels, 5 mm or 7 mm. By incorporating a Renishaw linear scale, the stage has a standard resolution of 0.1 µm (micrometer), repeatability of 1 µm, and positioning accuracy of 3 µm. Other specifications are available. Typical speeds of 1 m/s and accelerations of 5 m/s2 are easily achieved.

New Precision Hybrid Ball Screws With Ceramic Balls

New Precision Hybrid Ball Screws With Ceramic Balls
Steinmeyer, Inc. announced today a new option to its standard line of precision ball screw products – hybrid ball screws using ceramic rolling elements. By using balls manufactured from silicon nitride instead of tool steel, Steinmeyer is able to eliminate micro-welding in the ball nut. The major benefits include longer lifetime, lower friction and less lubricant required.

Air Bearing Performance Without Air Bearings!

Air Bearing Performance Without Air Bearings!
Steinmeyer announced an innovative, cost effective decoupling arrangement for ball screw drives that enables our standard PMT 160 series stages to achieve breakthrough performance – namely straightness and flatness runout of 50 nanometers or less! And we do it using mechanical cross roller bearings instead of large and expensive air bearings. The decoupling system isolates any transverse movement of the ball screw from the linear bearing system and saddle of the stage.
