At MACH 2012, Dr Masahiko Mori, president of Mori Seiki Co Ltd, welcomed Liam Eley, managing director of Premier Mould Services, as the first UK company to order a MILLTAP 700.

DMG has introduced the DMU 60 eVo FD with integral turning capability for efficient manufacture of complex workpieces, particularly in the aerospace, medical and motorsport industries.

A large turn-mill centre has been introduced by DMG for machining components up to three metres in length and 700 mm in diameter. Built by Gildemeister Drehmaschinen GmbH, the CTX gamma 3000 TC is equipped with a powerful ± 120 degree B-axis for flexible turning operations and milling in up to five axes simultaneously.

An entire hall was booked jointly by DMG and MORI SEIKI at this year's EMO machine tool exhibition in Hannover, underlining the increasingly close co-operation between the respectively German and Japanese machine tool builders. In the 7,600 m² area of hall 2, believed to be the largest stand ever booked at the biennial European show, no less than 97 high-technology machines were showcased under power, of which 25 made their world premieres.

In 2005, Midland Aerospace installed its first 5-axis machining centre from DMG, a DMU 70 eVo. The Sutton-in-Ashfield subcontractor now operates six machines from the same supplier for fully interpolative, 5-axis prismatic metalcutting, as well as a CNC lathe.

The new CTX beta 1250 4A from DMG offers two Y-axis turrets and transverse movement of a combined counter-spindle and tailstock assembly for highly productive turn-milling of complex components in one hit.

A dozen machines with an average order value of £200,000 were sold at the productivity days held by DMG at the International Manufacturing Centre, University of Warwick, from 7th to 10th June 2011. The orders comprised turning and 5-axis machining centres, including some from the manufacturer's new, entry-level, EcoLine range.

The new DMU 80 eVo vertical machining centre from DMG has an overhead gantry supporting the spindle head, resulting in exceptional accessibility to the working area, including from the side, even when an automated workpiece handling system is used. The design also provides a large 800 x 650 x 550 mm working volume in a compact footprint.

A 5-axis machining centre from DMG has been installed in the Halesowen Productivity Center of Sandvik Coromant UK, strengthening the cutting tool supplier's prismatic metalcutting capability.

Appointed as an Innovation Partner to Red Bull Racing in 2005, machine tool company DMG renewed the agreement with the Championship-contending Formula One team at the MACH 2010 machine tool exhibition in June. It followed a review of the association between the two companies over the past five years and heralds an increase in the scope of technological input that DMG will provide.
