Industry-Leading 3G Optimization Solution Proven to Achieve CAPEX and OPEX Savings

Tektronix Communications, a proven leading worldwide provider of Network Intelligence and communications test solutions, today announced its OptiMon suite of advanced network optimization products has been awarded the 2010 China’s Best Telecommunication Network Optimization Tool. This marks the second consecutive year that Tektronix Communications’ OptiMon solution has received this honor from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and the China Electronic Information Industry Development Institute (CCID).

OptiMon, designed for mobile carriers, is an integrated suite of products that gathers control and user plane performance data from 3G RAN interfaces (Iub, Iu, and Iur). This gives operators the ability to identify in real-time the root cause of quality of service issues by mapping service problems with underlying radio or core network problems. OptiMon utilizes the collected RAN data to support performance, capacity and coverage optimization use cases. For example, captured data is analyzed to provide network and service RAN KPIs and long-term trending analysis. OptiMon’s unique set of features, measurements and analysis for troubleshooting and optimization sets it apart from any test or Network Equipment Manufacturing tools available in the industry today.

OptiMon includes Tektronix’ industry-leading TrendNavigate, DT-Synergy and GeoLocalization optimization solutions. TrendNavigate is a KPI trend analysis tool that can improve UMTS Radio Access Network (UTRAN) performance optimization by providing high-level statistical analysis combined with drill-down cause analysis, while DT-Synergy is an advanced software application that enables correlation of drive test system data with protocol test data, allowing a significant visibility and efficiency gain for optimization engineers. The GeoLocalization module, based on an innovative algorithm which processes radio measurements data reported by network and handset data, provides a geographic view of subscriber activities, failure events and radio conditions.

Utilizing the OptiMon suite of solutions, operators can achieve an 80 percent reduction of overall drive test activities. This is a significant cost savings and a more efficient methodology as drive testing has proven to be expensive and limited for 3G network optimization. In addition to this, OptiMon’s advanced network optimization tools and distinctive analysis features have drastically reduced the average time of trouble ticket resolution. OptiMon’s ability to provide traffic and quality analysis on geographic maps allows network planning engineers to determine more precisely where additional sites or equipment upgrades need to be performed. This network planning support by OptiMon can translate into significant savings of capital expenditures while improving network quality.

“Facing the challenges of today’s economic environment, wireless operators have an increased focus on minimizing and optimizing both CAPEX and OPEX to ensure profitability, growth and remain competitive,” said Richard Kenedi, vice president, Test & Optimization, Tektronix Communications. “With the implementation of OptiMon, network operators will see accumulated cost savings, resulting in a positive ROI in less than a year. We are honored to be recognized by MIIT and CCID two years in a row for our innovation and dedication to providing our customers with the highest quality, cost-effective test and monitoring solutions.”

The award for 2010 China’s Best Telecommunication Network Optimization Tool was voted on by the China Mobile Communications Corporation (CMCC), the Communication University of China (CUC), the China Telecommunications Corporation (CTC), network equipment manufacturers and other vendors in the telecommunication supply chain, and was presented to Tektronix Communications at the Telecommunications Network Planning and Optimization Conference in Beijing.
