Home to some of the most troubled teenagers in Western Kentucky, the Detention Center chose two 9HP Landia Chopper Pumps for their ability to handle the problematic trash found in prison wastewater systems.
Located in a wet well just outside the Center’s maintenance office at the receiving dock, the Chopper Pumps are macerating the solids with their own robust knife system, which prevents clogging and subsequent breakdowns and failures.
Wes Cullin, Facilities Maintenance Superintendent at Crittenden, said: “We have not had one single problem with the pumps. They have been operating great!”
The wet well trash is pulverised by Landia’s innovative knife system, which prevents large troublesome particles from entering the chopper pump. The unit also benefits from a specially designed pump volute and impeller that protects the mechanical seals from stringy material.
