BEAMA WELCOMES EST’S HEAT PUMP FIELD TRIAL REPORT BEAMA has welcomed the Energy Saving Trust’s (EST) public report – ‘Getting warmer: a field trial of heat pumps’ - on the interim findings of the UK’s first domestic heat pump field trial. The report is an essential tool to inform the heat pump industry about the positive and negative impact of heat pump design, installation, commissioning and end-use.

The concept and use of diaphragm pumps is one of the oldest pumping techniques used by mankind. Water jet manufacturer Jet Edge will showcase its latest waterjet pump technology with live water jet cutting demonstrations at EuroBLECH 2010, 26-30 October in Hannover, Germany.

Dolomite, has introduced the modular Droplet Advanced System, which enables users to produce more than 10,000 highly monodispersed droplets per second, ranging from Ø 20 to 250µm. Developed for more experienced researchers, this system is the latest addition to Dolomite’s Micro Droplet System range and provides a flexible, high-performance solution for droplet formation. Providing a complete solution which contains all required pumps, connectors and chips, this system is ideal for a wide range of development work in droplet microfluidics, including applications such as high throughput chemistry and biology.

BEI Kimco Magnetics, recently met the challenging valve control actuator requirements for a medical ventilator system for critical care patients. Two Kimco Voice Coil Actuators support different functions within the ventilator. One actuator controls the diaphragm valves that regulate the air pressure within the patient’s lungs during the inhalation and exhalation cycles. A second actuator operates a safety valve that diverts the air flow around the ventilator in the event of a system malfunction or power failure. Both actuators incorporate a magnetic spring that establishes the preferred or home position. This feature was an important design element to support maximum battery life and the fail-safe valve mechanism.

Water jet technology companies Jet Edge, Inc. and Chukar Waterjet, Inc. recently played a key role in helping BP stop the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico. The companies provided ultra-high pressure waterjet equipment and application expertise to blast away hydrate ice crystals that had formed inside a containment cap at the spill site, clogging the containment system.

Dolomite, a world leader in microfluidic design and manufacture, has introduced the Pressure-based Droplet Starter System, which is ideal for the initial exploration of droplet microfluidics. It provides a complete solution containing all necessary pumps, connectors and chips, enabling the immediate production of highly monodispersed droplets from Ø 20 to 150µm, with a Ø tolerance of +/- 1 %.
