The Brixworth Engineering Co Ltd

A purpose designed Benco support and manipulator frame has been supplied by Brixworth Engineering Co Ltd to the UK Astronomy Technology Centre at the Royal Observatory, Edinburgh. This has been supplied to cover the handling requirements during the production and integration of a prestigious new K-band multi-object spectrograph instrument, designed for the very large telescope, operated by the European Southern Observatory and located in Northern Chile. The instrument is approximately 2.1m diameter x 1.5m long, has an anticipated total mass of 2.5 tonnes with an out of balance load of 3000Nm. A full rotation of movement of the instrument can be accommodated by the Benco manipulator frame, which even when fully loaded has been designed to withstand an earthquake side loading of 1.344g (13.2m/s^2).

The Brixworth Engineering Co Ltd are justifiably proud that their first load manipulator (the Benco engine stand), designed and manufactured over 40 years ago, which is still giving sterling service. From that initial concept, the company have refined and developed products now capable of efficiently, effectively and safely handling unit loads of up to 20 tons.

The production of aircraft seat components at BE Aerospace has been made safer and more efficient following the supply of Benco handling equipment designed and manufactured by Brixworth Engineering Co Ltd.

The Komatsu Reman organisation have taken delivery of two Benco purpose built engine positioner units from Brixworth Engineering Company Ltd for their European Remanufacturing Facility based in Birtley, County Durham.
