European connector makers have successfully persuaded the European Commission to allow the use of hexavalent chromium in the finishing processes of connector housings for a further 12 years. The European REACH regulation has banned the use of the compound, and the original authorisation for continued use was four years.

SOURIAU is honored to have served as a trusted collaborator to the ESA and CNES by supplying interconnection components 15 years ago for the Rosetta space mission. The firm supplied various types of connectors for the flight model and is proud to have contributed to this unprecedented ESA success.

Souriau has awarded a dual-source agreement to AB Connectors for the supply of its micro38999 connectors, which are used by many of the group's customers. The agreement guarantees that both manufacturers' micro38999 connectors are intermateable and interchangeable.Designed primarily for use in on-board systems for aeronautics and qualified to MIL-DTL-38999, the micro38999 range by Esterline Connection Technologies - Souriau stands out for its outstanding vibration and temperature resistance. Its enhanced resistance to harsh operating environments and its compact size are the key factors that have set the range apart from its competitors in recent years. The micro38999 range allows size and weight savings of 50% compared to the smallest MIL-DTL-38999 Series III units.

Designed for on-board or on-ground TCMS and TIMS applications, the MSG 3U connector by Esterline Connection Technologies - SOURIAU complies with EN 45545, the most stringent smoke and fire standard. It is one of the few connectors on the market that have been specially developed for 3U racks. Already adopted by several rail-equipment manufacturers, the MSG 3U is currently being employed in a large number of projects and will be presented at:InnoTrans (Booth 216 Hall 12) and APTA (Booth 1701)

First developed for the aerospace sector, Souriau’s ELIO contact combines excellent optical performance in demanding environments with very low signal losses even when subjected to the most violent vibrations or shocks. It now joins the Souriau railway connector product range: several all-optical or electrical/optical hybrid configurations are now available in the VGE1 range.

The Souriau 8D connector with integrated clinch nut allows easy fitting of aluminum sockets to electronic control boxes. It speeds up Series III connector fitting times, whilst at the same time reducing the number of fixing accessories (bolts, washers etc.) needed. It is particularly suited to boxes with difficult access and requiring maintenance, in an aeronautical or military environment.

ELIO® AQ is a metal adaptor for ELIO® optical contacts, for size 8 Quadrax cavities. It enables a standard ELIO® optical contact to be inserted into the size 8 Quadrax cavity of several connector types. The ELIO® AQ adaptor is already available for connectors in the MIL-DTL-38999/EN3645 series III, ARINC 404 and ARINC 600 ranges. All insert arrangement types with a size 8 cavity can thus be fitted with a fiber optic connection using the ELIO® optical contact.

SOURIAU is providing power and signal electrical composite connectors for the revolutionary Solar Impulse solar powered aircraft, which completed a 26-hour non-stop flight in July 2010 and is working up to circle the earth without fuel only propelled by solar energy.

KV class connectors are the perfect answer to the high-vibration and high-temperature (260°C) requirements encountered in aircraft engines and other harsh operating environments. In addition, the trend in aviation to minimise weight and to optimise the ergonomics of wiring harnesses make KV class connectors the perfect solution with their integrated backshell. It is because of these special features that the KV class is the solution adopted for new engine developments.

Souriau is launching a new range of miniature connectors developed from the MIL-DTL-38999: micro38999. This new range offers the best possible performance - in the most compact models on the market. The micro38999 allows size and weight savings of 50% compared to the smallest MIL-DTL38999 Series III units.

Protokraft has introduced the Sabre Series 11-02 high speed optoelectronic solutions with Souriau´s ELIO optical interfaces, designed for military, aerospace, industrial or utility applications where significant levels of shock, vibration and extreme temperature ranges are experienced. These components integrate the functions of optical transmitters or receivers into the shell of a standard D38999 / ELIO size 11-02 optical connector. These components are designed for use in harsh environments where small size, weight reduction and resistance to harsh environments are valued.

SOURIAU has obtained K2 qualification of 8N45S Series nuclear grade connectors. Compliant with RCC-E 2005 design and manufacturing standard, these new connectors integrate a screen termination mechanism that ensures perfect continuity and high shielding performances.
