Foster Corporation, part of the PolyMedex Discovery Group, is pleased to announce the appointment of William Smith as Sales Manager for custom polymer compounds. In his new role, Mr. Smith will lead Foster’s strategic initiatives to continue as a leading supplier of custom compounds for minimally invasive medical devices and to expand into other critical, non-invasive healthcare markets. He will manage the company’s entire sales organization and product portfolio mix, while working closely with key global customers to develop new products and applications.

Putnam Plastics, a PolyMedex Discovery Group company, introduces wire reinforced, multi-lumen tubing for minimally invasive procedures that require multiple working channels and high mechanical performance.

PolyMedex Discovery Group announces the availability of custom multi-layer tubing composed of thermoset polyimide and thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) laminate. Through a manufacturing process developed by PolyMedex, the high strength and tight tolerances of thermoset polyimide are combined with the wide variety of material options and configurations available in thermoplastic elastomers. Polyimide and TPE composite multi-layer tubing is ideal for demanding medical device applications that require a combination of high performance and manufacturability.

PolyMedex Discovery Group has expanded its range of custom material services by offering custom melt filtration of polymers used for catheters and balloons. The company’s advanced melt filtration capabilities can remove more than 80% of gels and other contaminants while retaining polymers inherent mechanical properties.

PolyMedex Discovery Group has expanded its range of services for implantable polymers to include a range of clean room blending of bone growth additives in polymers. The company has invested in state-of-the-art twin screw extrusion technology to allow for small scale development batches that are scalable to full production.

PolyMedex Discovery Group introduces a line of custom catheter tubing with wire reinforcements embedded within the wall at the proximal end of the catheter only, and no reinforcement on the distal end. Reinforcement options include braided wire for torque transmission and coiled wire for kink resistance. These components utilize integrated extrusion, wire wrapping and welding technologies to reduce costs and improve quality over traditional hand layup methods.

PolyMedex Discovery Group, announces the availability of custom colored medical grade polymers. Specifically formulated for precision catheter components, PolyMedex custom polymers feature superior color accuracy and surface quality as compared to traditional generic color concentrates.

PolyMedex Discovery Group announces the expansion of the NanoMed™ nanoparticle technology to include thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) formulations for the minimally invasive device market. These new formulations dramatically increase flexural modulus (stiffness) of polymers while maintaining flexibility resulting in increased push and torque performance for catheter devices.

PolyMedex Discovery Group, a privately held service provider to the medical industry, offering specialty polymers, custom polymer blends, custom extrusions, and contract material blending for drug delivery, is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Maguire as Marketing Director. In his new position, Mr. Maguire will be responsible for leading cross-functional product teams to communicate technical information to serve current customers, and to identify product development opportunities for the recently created PolyMedex Discovery Group formed by the merger of Foster Corporation and Putnam Plastics Corporation.
