Tank Alarm monitoring to keep Kenya fuelled

Tank Alarm monitoring to keep Kenya fuelled
If not monitored correctly, loss of containment from a tank or storage vessel could pose a serious safety risk to people or the environment. This is why Burhani Engineers, the company installing overfill protection systems in Mombasa’s largest tank storage facility, needed reliable, high level alarm instrumentation to help protect critical assets. Here Ian Loudon, International Sales and Marketing Manager at Omniflex, discusses how having the right alarm system ensures safety in a tank facility.

Versatile remote monitoring for cathodic protection systems

Versatile remote monitoring for cathodic protection systems
Omniflex has released the iREF8 Cathodic Protection (CP) monitoring module to its PowerView cathodic protection range, also providing a convenient and cost-effective way of adding remote monitoring capabilities to existing CP systems without the need for a complete overhaul. The iREF8 has eight isolated inputs and can monitor reference half-cells and other inputs like Transformer/Rectifier (T/R) voltages and currents. Unlike previous systems, the iREF8 also provides the ability to read all reference electrodes in a CP system simultaneously.

Givaudan: leading safety in the fragrance industry

Givaudan: leading safety in the fragrance industry
Once the artistic work of creating a fragrance is complete and the formula has been signed off, the process of extracting the raw materials and blending begins. Safety and compliance are a priority during the manufacturing process and so, when flavours and fragrances giant Givaudan wanted to strengthen its safety critical alarm systems at its Kent facility, it partnered with Omniflex to upgrade its fleet of annunciators.

Taking on the challenge of unmonitored concrete assets

Taking on the challenge of unmonitored concrete assets
Most bridges are constructed using steel rebar reinforced concrete, many of these structures use Cathodic Protection (CP) systems to keep the vital steel reinforcement from corroding. Here, Gary Bradshaw, Director of Omniflex, discusses the problems inherent to CP system monitoring, and describes the modern approaches that make it feasible.

The trappings of working with corporations over SMEs

The trappings of working with corporations over SMEs
When dealing with large corporations, it’s easy to get lost in the noise. These organisations are often so large that the personability, inter-business relationships and hands-on approaches crucial for successful engineering projects are lost entirely. Here, Gary Bradshaw, Director of Omniflex, discusses how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are perfectly placed to fill this widening market that can be found between these international monoliths.

Flipping the switch: monitoring electrical equipment

Flipping the switch: monitoring electrical equipment
The Natref petrol refinery, located in the industrial region of Sasolburg, was commissioned in 1971 and is one of South Africa’s oldest inland refineries. Historically, engineers at the refinery have had difficulties monitoring the operations of circuit breakers at the refinery’s substations, leading to increased maintenance costs and unplanned down-time. Here, Ian Loudon, International Sales and Marketing Manager at Omniflex, discusses how alarm annunciators and sequence of events recording came to the aid of plant operational managers at the refinery.

Optimising protection systems for hazardous environments

Optimising protection systems for hazardous environments
Cathodic Protection (CP) is a critical tool when it comes to combatting corrosion in crucial infrastructure. However, what considerations must you make when using CP systems to control corrosion in hazardous environments containing volatile materials? Here, Ian Loudon, International Sales and Marketing Manager at Omniflex, discusses the best practice for using CP systems in hazardous environments, like those found in South Africa’s Sunrise Energy project.
