New Scale Technologies has significantly increased the lifetime specification for its M3-FS Focus Module and M3-LS Linear Smart Stage. The new specification of >10 million random moves within 1.2 km of total distance traveled further boosts the utility of these tiny, all-in-one systems for commercial and industrial OEM product applications.

New Scale Technologies, Inc. announced its M3-F focus module for miniature OEM cameras used in handheld products; portable biometric sensors; targeting, surveillance and security systems; and medical diagnostic and imaging devices. At only 20 x 22 x 18.5 mm – about the same dimensions as a fixed lens holder – the M3-F focus module improves image quality over a wide range of focus distances without adding volume or significantly increasing power usage.

New Scale Technologies today announced its M3 (Micro-Mechatronic Module) Design Platform for rapid development of custom closed-loop micro actuator modules. Building on the company’s miniature SQUIGGLE motor and TRACKER position sensor technology, this design platform yields a complete closed-loop actuator on a printed circuit board of 12 x 30 mm or less. Modules have low power consumption and 3.3V input voltage for battery-powered operation. No external control board is necessary; simple serial commands drive an on-board PID controller using a standard I2C, SPI or USART interface.

New Scale Technologies today announced the first shipment of custom auto focus modules that install directly on board-mounted cameras and accept standard threaded lens assemblies. This compact lens motion module uses New Scale's tiny SQUIGGLE motor, TRACKER position sensor and integrated electronics to provide extremely compact, high-resolution closed-loop control. These components are combined with precise mechanical guidance in a robust polymer housing only slightly larger than the optical lens assembly.

New Scale Technologies today announced availability of its next-generation piezo motor controller ASIC and new motor control reference designs for its miniature SQUIGGLE micro motors, the world’s smallest linear motors. The new NSD-1202 ASIC allows independent velocity control of two SQL-1.8 SQUIGGLE motors. The new MC-3300 and MC-1100 motor controllers / reference designs introduce motor frequency tracking to ensure constant speed and optimal performance of SQL-series SQUIGGLE motors independently of temperature.

New Scale Technologies today announced improved 0.5 μm resolution and additional packaging options for its miniature TRACKER position sensor. This robust non-contact sensor is ideal for applications such as optical imaging stabilization and zoom in digital cameras, phone cameras, binoculars and other optical devices. It is also suitable for a wide range of other applications including consumer electronics, precision biomedical devices, optical instrumentation, automation and automotive systems.
