Sensing and control start-ups are threatening incumbents in the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) world, as core equipment developers struggle with innovation and finances, according to Lux Research. Just as in the building energy management systems (BEMS) software space, start-ups are innovating faster and challenging large building controls companies’ turf by installing their own connected devices and offering services. 

Global biofuels capacity will grow to 61 billion gallons per year (BGY) in 2018, up from 55.1 BGY in 2014. Ethanol and biodiesel will continue to dominate with 96% of the capacity in 2018, but novel fuels and novel feedstocks will be major drivers of capacity growth, according to Lux Research.
