LG Motion Ltd has added a new miniature rotary stage to its competitively priced LG-Series precision positioning mechanics range. With a table-top diameter of 45 mm and a low profile height of just 35 mm, the new LGR-50 joins a modular family of linear and vertical positioners that combine with motion controllers, drives and interfacing components for complete automated positioning solutions.

The Portsmouth – UK based division of Airbus Defence and Space designs, builds and tests highly advanced payloads and scientific equipment for telecommunications, navigation, Earth observation and scientific satellites. As part of its manufacturing programme for cutting-edge space-borne radars, LG Motion Ltd was recently commissioned to supply the company with a custom designed ‘Antenna Turnover Rig’ to provide mounting and free access for assembly and test of large antennae panel assemblies that measure approximately 3m x 1m x 0.2m with a mass of 115 kg.

Strengthening its continued design and build expertise for biomedical motion applications, LG Motion Limited has just completed the supply of a customised positioning system for the bioengineering innovator MICA BioSystems Ltd. Formed in 2010 by Keele University Professors Jon Dobson and Alicia J El Haj, the spin-out Company has developed a ‘mechanical conditioning bioreactor’ to support a patented technology invented at Keele’s Institute of Science and Technology in Medicine (ISTM). The benchtop laboratory machine aims to control cell behaviour by applying time varying magnetic forces to magnetic nanoparticles targeted to cell membrane receptors. The particles are oscillated by a motion controlled magnet array to vary the magnetic force and exposure factors applied. The technique is of wide interest for biomedical research and has very promising opportunities for the emerging technology fields of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine as well as providing an important tool for drug screening. 

With its own design and manufacturing facility based in Basingstoke and distribution partnerships with globally recognised motion control equipment specialists, LG Motion’s product portfolio ranges from individual mechanical and electronic components through to complete in-house designed and built customised mechatronic motion sub-systems for automated manufacture and test, or for research and development.

A motorised XYZR gantry scanning system has been supplied to the Imperial College Non-Destructive Evaluation Group by LG Motion. The system has been supplied for a research project to evaluate critical aspects of a high temperature strain monitoring technique for use in power station steam lines and associated components. The system features combined vertical and rotary positioning axis that includes the ability to measure its force, position and velocity.  

Helping to set the final touches for the Formula Student 2014 racing season, Team Bath Racing have been busy developing a much advanced tyre test rig which utilises a single axis linear actuator and precision servo drive supplied by LG Motion. 

A distribution agreement has been made for LG Motion to sell and integrate Airex Corporation's range of linear motors,  linear positioning actuators, rotary motors and voice coils. The Airex range includes patented and distinctive characteristics that enable the high levels of dynamic performance that is called for in demanding motion control applications such as semiconductor manufacture, imaging & photonics, aerospace & undersea, medical, life sciences and military equipment. 

LG Motion is offering a competitively priced evaluation kit based around Arcus Technology’s DMX-J-SA series, NEMA 17 frame sized, integrated microstep motor + control + drive. The USB stepper motor evaluation kit is aimed at OEMs and machine builders wishing to assess the many benefits of Arcus’ integrated motor technology; where users can minimise cabling and simplify machine layouts – lowering build costs and allowing faster machine development timescales.

LG Motion will be exhibiting motion control components and system solutions that design engineers, involved in researching and developing ideas for new products and automated production systems, will find invaluable. LG Motion will be highlighting linear and rotary moving coil actuators from SMAC Europe Ltd as well as its own LG range of high precision linear, rotary and elevation slides.

LG Motion Limited recently designed and supplied a large custom built X-Z detector positioning system for the I24 Microfocus Macromolecular Crystallography (MX) beamline at Diamond Light Source, the UK’s national synchrotron science facility.
