Laser World of Photonics

As a key technology, microelectronics is the foundation for the success of the most important branches of German industry. 50 per cent of all industrial products manufactured in Germany now contain at least one electronic component. 8 out of 10 innovations in automobile construction already stem from the electrical engineering, electronics and IT industries. Optical technologies contribute a great deal to this dynamism: laser-based processes create the basis for miniaturisation in chip and hardware production, and ensure maximum precision in automated manufacturing of complex electronic components.

New laser systems are making processes less energy-intensive and more accurate. In many cases innovative lasers enable certain production steps to be carried out, especially when micromaterial processing is involved – i.e. drilling, milling and cutting in the microscopically small range. The lasers used in this processes do not emit light continuously, they are “pulse” operated, i.e. they emit their light in time-limited, very short “pulses” and therefore protect the material to be processed. New ultra-short pulsed lasers combine pulse rates in the picosecond or femtosecond range, i.e. from 10 12 or 10 15 seconds, with hitherto unknown performance levels. LASER World of PHOTONICS 2011 will present the latest solutions in the area of ultra-short pulsed lasers at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre from 23 to 26 May 2011.

Demographic change means that the health care systems in many industrial nations are now confronted with the challenges of an increasingly ageing society. Advances in optical technologies, especially biophotonics and life sciences will help in finding solutions to these challenges. Biophotonics will be one of the focus topics at LASER World of PHOTONICS 2011 and will be represented at both the trade fair and the World of Photonics Congress by a conference and practical subject-related talks.

Industry marketplace, think tank, knowledge forum, solution provider, source of momentum, networking – LASER World of PHOTONICS satisfies all these entirely different claims. Applications are the common denominator and are dealt with throughout the trade fair and the Congress. Optical technologies will become the focus of attention at the world’s leading trade fair and the World of Photonics Congress, which will be held one month earlier than usual from May 23 to 26, 2011. The key topics at the trade fair will be lasers and laser systems for manufacturing, green photonics as well as biophotonics and life sciences.

Energy efficiency and environmental compatibility are two of the most important challenges facing the automobile industry. Automobile electronics can provide numerous solutions for future automobiles and is also therefore one of the fastest growing markets in the automotive sector. Around 20% of exhibitors at electronica 2010, the world’s leading trade fair for components, systems and applications for the electrical engineering and electronics industry, will show products from the automotive sector and present solutions for future mobility. In addition to the exhibition itself, the “electronica Automotive Conference” and the “Automotive Forum” will also focus on this key topic.

productronica 2009, the world’s leading trade fair for all aspects of electronics production, will be held at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre from Tuesday November 10 to Friday 13, 2009. productronica has been the production industry’s global meeting place since 1975 and this year’s event will bring together more than 1000 exhibitors from over 30 countries. Altogether, well over 60,000m² of exhibition space has already been reserved by companies representing every sector of electronics production from PCB assembly and test and measurement, to materials handling, contract manufacturing and logistics.

The “Munich Electronics Summit” on November 10, 2009 will be the first meeting in Munich of top international managers from the electronics and electronics production industries and their customers. During productronica, the world’s leading trade fair for innovative electronics production, around 50 CEOs and managing directors from the electronics and electronics production industries will discuss future strategies for companies in these industries and talk about tomorrow’s trends. They will be accompanied this year by Dr. Ram Charan, one of the world’s leading management consultants and the guest of honour at the Munich Electronics Summit.
