A major advance in rotary table design was announced by Kitagawa at the recent EMO 2011 machine tool exhibition in Hannover. The Japanese manufacturer launched the first of a new generation of compact, low energy units that incorporate a high efficiency direct drive motor to achieve increased torque at lower power consumption.

Companies developing and building lathes with a spindle speed of up to 5,600 rpm have the option of fitting a new, hydraulically actuated, rotary chuck cylinder that typically consumes 1.5 kilowatt-hours over a daily shift, compared with 36 kilowatt-hours for a conventional cylinder. The reduction is nearly 96 per cent and equates to a saving of more than 19 kg of carbon dioxide.

Kitagawa Europe Ltd is targeting major export growth with the establishment of a new sales organisation in India.

A series of new workholding and machining equipment – including the IEMCA Automata 2.5, Kitagawa TW2180 twin spindle rotary table and JFT-S100 stationary grip meter – will be exhibited for the first time in the UK by Kitagawa Europe on Stand 5148 in Hall 5 at MACH 2008, which takes place at the NEC between 21st-25th April.
