Setting up transducers for sound and vibration measurements is a much simpler process for engineers with Brüel & Kjær’s new smart transducer setup concept.  When several transducers have been mounted onto test objects, such as vehicle engines or aircraft components, it can be very time-consuming to link them to the measurement software correctly.

Locating noises in aircraft cabins, cockpits and other areas has been made easier by Brüel & Kjær’s new PULSE Reflex Acoustic Camera. Cabin noise, acoustic leaks, and buzz, squeak and rattle (BSR) can be major problems, with persistent, irritating sounds negatively affecting customers’ perceptions of a vehicle.

Microsoft has broken a Guinness World Record (another one!) to become officially recognised as home to the quietest room on Earth. Staff at the company’s Redmond, Washington campus in the USA, beat the standing record of minus 13 dB(A), earlier this month, after the company’s anechoic chamber proved to have an ambient background noise level as low as minus 20 dB(A).

To make triaxial measurements easier for automotive and industrial engineers, Brüel & Kjær has created a new charge accelerometer, which enables fast and reliable high temperature tests - Type 4527‐C.  The 4527‐C only needs one cable to link up with the three output channels on a data analyser system, reducing set up time during tests.

Aerospace expert Mecanizados Escribano has expanded its vibration test capabilities with a new electrodynamic shaker system from Brüel & Kjær. The company, which specializes in analysing complex parts for aerospace and defence applications, needed a high-end vibration test system to complete its Madrid-based facility’s test suite.

A major expansion and update to Measurement Partner, a comprehensive suite of solutions that supports sound level meter customers through every step of the sound measurement process has been announced by Brüel & Kjær. The updates include Wi-Fi capability for its sound level meters and cloud storage for its post-processing software. Entirely new capabilities include a smartphone field app, a learning centre and an online community.

The Predictor-LimA noise mapping and prediction software from Bruel & Kjaer automatically calculates noise barrier efficiency to identify inadequate barrier performance. In addition, by modelling how well a noise barrier performs along the transmission loss spectrum, acoustic experts can more easily identify the most effective noise barrier for a specific location.

To meet growing demand from consultants and other environmental experts in Spain and South America, Brüel & Kjær’s noise prediction software - Predictor-LimA - is now available in Spanish. Predictor has been created according to the Windows software design guide, to make sure the software is intuitive and user-friendly for new users, from the very start.

Noise Sentinel Brüel & Kjær’s subscription-based noise management service will be on parade at - Noise Sentinel - at this year’s NCE Tunnelling Summit in London (Dec 3-4). The company’s acoustic experts will be on hand during the conference, taking place on December 3, so visitors can discuss their construction noise management issues and see a demonstration of the Noise Sentinel system.

“At a test house there is no such thing as a typical test,” says TUV SUD Product Service Lab Manager Haridimos (Hari) Mountogianakis. “The tests are normally specified by the customer and can range from 10 minutes to 100 hours in each axis and the levels can range from 0.1 Grms up to 40 Grms or higher for shock tests.”
