FINAT has reshaped and rebranded its annual congress to reflect greater industry collaboration and cooperation. Under its new name, the European Label Forum (ELF) will take place June 11-13 2015, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

FINAT announces that it has signed a marketing/promotional partnership agreement with Labelexpo organisers Tarsus – which is particularly valuable for the biennial European shows – that extends now to 2019. Labelexpo is being staged at Brussels Expo from 24-27 September. FINAT can be found in Hall 11 at stand P40.

FINAT’s role as an ‘umbrella organisation’, bringing together Europe’s supply chain participants in the self-adhesive label industry, would hardly be possible without the network of national label associations that represent the industry at a regional and local level: DLA, Denmark; UNFEA, France; VskE, Germany; GIPEA, Italy; ANFEC, Spain; GFF, Sweden; ESD, Turkey; and BPIF Labels and BSRLA, UK.

Jules Lejeune, Managing Director of the European self-adhesive labelling association FINAT, outlines the extensive opportunities of the technology in labelling alcoholic beverages. I believe that it is to the whisky and brandy distillers of Europe that we, in the self-adhesive label industry, should drink a long toast. FINAT introduces the entry and participation details of its annual international labelling competition and the programme of its congress. On the occasion of its 55th birthday, FINAT is joining forces with the German national label association VskE to host this European label industry’s annual leadership congress.

A recent innovation from Schreiner ProTech, based on advanced self-adhesive label technology has brought significant cost and time savings for manufacturers of electronic goods – and won recognition in a prestigious international labelling competition. Sensitive parts in today’s many electronic devices require careful finishing treatment by the manufacturer before they can be added to the finished product. They must be protected from the ingress of dirt, moisture, and salt spray to ensure that they will function properly, and they must carry a barcoded nameplate – usually a specially-developed self-adhesive label construction – which must last the life of the product – for identification and authentication purposes. These post-production activities are essential but time-consuming and costly, and often involve hand assembly, particularly on smaller components.

A small, hand-held disposable device for detecting protein on surfaces in food preparation and packaging areas is the latest innovation achieved with the help of self-adhesive labels. Orion Clean Card PRO, the patent-pending device from Orion Diagnostica was the result of teamwork with the company’s expert label printers, Auraprint Oy, and VTT, the Technical Research Centre of Finland.

In food and beverage retailing, a self-adhesive label can create a multi-functional solution that will both simplify accurate workflow and product throughput and provide an invaluable additional level of product authentication. In the light of much of the media coverage of adulteration/falsification of drinks – baby milk and other beverages (including wine) and foods, – the responsible brand owner today can choose to use one simple path to success, across all his required functionalities: a self-adhesive label.

FINAT, the international association for the self-adhesive label industry, will again be exhibiting at Labelexpo Europe 2011, to be held from 28 September – 1 October at the Parc des Expositions in Brussels.

The 2011 FINAT Congress proved a major success, with the appointment of a new President, a raft of awards handed out to top-performing label companies, and the hot topics of the label industry debated at a roundtable. The event was staged on June 8-10 in Giardini Naxos, Italy, and attracted around 380 delegates from 150 companies.

FINAT, the world-wide association representing the interest of the self-adhesive labelling industry, announces that Kurt Walker has been appointed new president for FINAT at their annual congress in Sicily this year. Kurt Walker takes over the presidency from Andrea Vimercati to steer FINAT for the next two years. Mr Walker (°1950), currently CEO at tesa Bandfix Switzerland, became a member of the FINAT board in 1999. Until now he took up his responsibility as FINAT Vice-President and Membership Committee Member. Prior to that he was also the association’s Treasurer.

FINAT takes pride in announcing that FINAT, as every other year, is one of the leading associations with regard to winning World Label Awards. With 27 categories to choose from and with the diverse range of applications available, it is easier to match the FINAT entries to the World Label Award categories. Hence FINAT normally enters more categories than any other association. FINAT consistently wins several categories mostly in the wine/spirits and cosmetic end use segments. From this year’s FINAT 2010 award winners, seven became a World Label Award winner, including Dow Industries, Skanem Hobro, Marzek Etiketten, Tapp Technologies, Skanem Newcastle, Schreiner Group and Royston Labels. Six others have received honourable mention awards. Marzek Etiketten from Austria was the most awarded label producer.

FINAT, the international association for self-adhesive label industry, announces it has been undertaking preliminary initiatives for standardization of testing methods for digital printing upon request of the industry.
