A new Conductive Elastomer Engineering Handbook for EMI (electromagnetic interference) shielding applications has been published by Parker Chomerics. Available as a free download in PDF format, this guide aims to help design engineers in selecting the optimum EMI gasket for the task in hand. The 152 page handbook is a suitable design companion for any engineer tasked with delivering EMI shielding solutions.

Parker Hannifin's Chomerics division has developed an advanced range of urethane-filled expanded aluminium gaskets able to provide a soft, electrically conductive fluid and pressure sealing solution for a variety of flange-to-flange assemblies. METALASTIC EXP-URE fully cured gaskets offer users the ability to minimise the galvanic corrosion of interfacing surfaces that demand electrical bonding, making them suitable for applications requiring lightning strike grounding or EMI shielding.

SOFT-SHIELD® 4850 from Chomerics Europe - a division of Parker Hannifin – is highly suited to the growing number of medical applications that now exist due to the rapid expansion and use of electronics equipment for patient care. The primary reason for the EMI shielding material’s suitability is that it uses silver plated fibres rather than nickel to provide electrical conductivity; contact with nickel, commonly used in shielded gasket materials, has been shown to cause an allergic reaction in some people and can result in dermatitis.

Chomerics Europe, a division of Parker Hannifin, will be exhibiting its latest innovations in thermal management and EMI shielding products, including shielded windows, at this year’s Electronica exhibition to be held in Munich in November. The focus application areas covered in four main displays on the booth will be automotive, medical, telecoms and military.
