It has been announced by British Steel that there will be the biggest single investment in its manufacturing operations for a decade with a £50m scheme to upgrade its wire rod business. The investment will significantly improve the quality and range of wire rod produced at the company’s headquarters in Scunthorpe, England, enabling it to grow in current markets and enter new ones, inside and outside the UK.

Enabling British Steel to meet growing demands for long length rail is the investment at the heart of the European rail network, especially throughout Italy where it has already delivered significant quantities. Peter Smith, British Steel’s Managing Director Rail, said: “We’re extremely excited to be growing our footprint in Europe by opening this new logistics centre in Lecco.
