New Energy Display Association Will Make Consumer Savings A Reality
Energy displays have proven highly successful in helping consumers to reduce electricity consumption and will play a significant role in the context of the UK’s national Smart Meter programme. The recently published Empower Demand report from VaasaETT, Global Energy Think Tank compared the results of trials around the world and found average annual electricity savings of 8.68% for customers supplied with IHD’s.

While the Office of Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) continues to oversee the completion of the Plugged-in-Places project, and promises to facilitate the plug-in vehicle market, the emphasis now grows on private investment to lead the way in the development of a mass market for plug-in vehicles.

Motors Regulation 640/2009 comes into effect – low efficiency motors banned from 16 June 2011 – ‘significant moment for industry’ says REMA

From 16 June 2011 it is no longer legal to place low efficiency motors on the European market. Regulation 640/2009 of the EcoDesign Directive has now come into effect and any motor with an efficiency rating less that IE2 can no longer be placed on the market. Specifically, the Regulations apply to LV motors of type S1 and S3 between the sizes 750W and 375kW.

David Dossett awarded MBE in Queen’s Birthday Honours
David Dossett was awarded an MBE this week for services to the Electrical Manufacturing Industry. A key industry figure for 25 years, David led the successful campaign against the harmonisation of plugs and socket outlets in Europe and coordinated the BEAMA worldwide campaign against the counterfeiting of electrical equipment. Under the various projects around the world over 12 million counterfeit products have been seized and destroyed, leading to significant health and safety benefits in the UK and worldwide.

BEAMA’s Domestic Water Treatment Association (DWTA) has welcomed the new Part L Domestic Heating Compliance Guide. The guide states that ‘as a minimum’ chemical inhibitors should be BuildCert- approved. This applies to new-build systems, and when changing a boiler in retrofit circumstances.
