Partnership with SGS to help improve safety and hygiene
The UK Government has recently endorsed the reopening of conferences and exhibitions, releasing a series of guidelines to keep participants safe. To guarantee that these are followed to the utmost standard, Easyfairs, the organiser of Advanced Engineering UK and Lab Innovations, has partnered with SGS, global provider of hygiene and disinfection protocols. The shows, which will be co-hosted at the NEC in Birmingham on 4th-5th November 2020, will follow the highest standards of safety and cleanliness.

According to the latest statistics by Engineering UK, 42% of girls between 14 and 16 would consider a career in engineering. However, only 12.37% of UK engineers are women. The organisers of Advanced Engineering UK have talked to Dr Lina Huertas, Head of Technology Strategy at The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC), about her exciting career and about what educators and employers can do to reduce the gender gap.

UK engineering companies are missing out on R&D funding

UK engineering companies are missing out on R&D funding
The study, commissioned by innovation specialists MPA for Advanced Engineering 2019, found that one in five (21%) innovation active engineering firms are not taking advantage of the government’s R&D Tax Credit scheme, which allows companies to claim back up to 33p for every £1 spent on R&D activity. On average, engineering companies invest £386,000 a year on R&D activity, meaning they are potentially able to claim £100,360 in funding. With over 100,000 UK engineering firms not claiming, despite describing their company as innovation active, a staggering £10.2 billion is going unclaimed each year.

The Enabling Innovation Zone aims to support smaller enterprises accelerate their innovations into the advanced manufacturing and technology industries and is supported by Innovate UK/KTN, the Institute for Manufacturing and Innovation DB.

The UK’s largest annual engineering show, Advanced Engineering has announced some of the guest speakers that will be presenting at the show in October at the NEC in Birmingham. As part of the extensive open forum programme, speakers include representatives from Siemens Digital Industries, BAE Systems, McLaren Automotive and IBM Academy of Technology.
