Oil and gas exploration applications use a similar methodology as going to the planet Mars. It is in a place that is inaccessible, toxic and has a corrosive environment; a place that you do not want failures from your equipment to occur in.

Whilst recently providing a product demonstration of the unique capabilities of the machined spring product, a question was asked, “Would Abssac be able to retro-fit a spring now being used as a buffer spring in a fuel control system”?

Miniature lead screw designs have often been challenging with regards to application performance verses cost. Overcoming the significant technical obstacles, Abssac has once again managed to supply what other lead screw manufacturers cannot.

The low friction within ball screw designs means that a high mechanical efficiency is delivered compared to that of lead screw designs. A typical ball screw may be 90 percent efficient, versus 50 percent efficiency of a lead screw of equal size. Ball screw specification is often a result of an applications requirement to have smooth, accurate and repeatable linear movement.

Shaft couplings for the printing industry are required to work with absolute precision to guarantee a register pressure and therefore ensure a high print quality. The high precision requirement starts in the actual printing mechanism and continues through the refinement process to quality assurance on the final product. To maintain the precision movement the Schmidt-Kupplung range of shaft couplings are found in many areas of the printing processes.

The Challenge was to develop a flexible shaft coupling that could be used in the drive assembly of a “Aerator” used in the oxygenation of water in fish spawning ponds and small lakes. Aeration is especially required in times of hot weather where the oxygen concentration within the water can fall and have a detrimental effect on spawning.

Miniature lead screw designs have often been challenging with regards to application performance verses reliability and cost. A recent medical application supplied by Abssac Limited posed some significant technical obstacles, which were successfully overcome.

We are now stocking a complete range of Stainless Steel lead screws that are specifically produced for the food packaging or medical industry. Stocked in matching left and right handed threads, Abssac can supply screws cut to length or machined to drawing.

A quick turnaround by Abssac has aided the restoration of two pre WW11 machine tools being restored to their former glory in a local woollen mills maintenance workshop. Despite the customer being without the original dimensional drawings for the ball screws and the fact that they were very much damaged, meant that Abssac had to rely on its extensive ball screw knowledge to satisfy the customer.
