Rofin Laser Technology for Medical Device Manufacturing at MEDICA 2009
As the leading manufacturer of lasers and laser based solutions for materials processing within the medical device industry, Rofin will be a key participant at MEDICA 2009 in Dusseldorf. During the exhibition, from the 18th to the 21st November, Rofin will showcase examples of systems and solutions for welding and marking, which will be located on the ACIG booth, number 55 in hall 13.
StarWeld Select – Laser welding with optimum process validation

The ROFIN Laser Micro group has further refined the current version of the StarWeld Select laser welding system.

The latest developments include enhanced joystick features and direct integration with the CNC control, making the operation of the system even easier and more comfortable for the user. The StarWeld Select can be used as an ergonomically optimized manual welding laser, a joystick controlled deposit welder or a high-precision CNC system with 4 axes. These options provide a high degree of flexibility for welding applications on medical device components. With the micro welding option, welding spot diameters smaller than 0.1 mm can be achieved.

Reliable process validation is crucial for quality management in medical device production. The StarWeld Select laser system with its CNC control system meets these requirements by ensuring highly repeatable processing and accuracy. All programs, which contain the welding parameters for the application, are protected against unauthorized changes and modification. Features such as Intelligent Pulse Management™ guarantee excellent pulse stability, even with smallest pulse energies, providing reproducible results without power fluctuation.

The integrated FTP server allows saving and administration of all log file data on a central computer via an Ethernet connection. This includes the results of a laser power measurement before and after the welding process.

StarCut Tube – now with 4 axes and automatic tube loader

The StarCut Tube 2+2 offers up to 4 servo driven axes and can be used to create various cutting geometries, including off-axis cuts and enabling the system to process oval or rectangular tubes.

With these enhanced features, the StarCut Tube 2+2 now opens up a variety of new application areas way beyond traditional stent cutting. In addition, whilst stent cutting typically takes minutes, other components are frequently processed within seconds. To ensure optimum machine utilisation, ROFIN now offers an automatic tube loader as an option. This system includes a magazine for up 50 tubes with a maximum length of 3m.

With finished components and off-cuts being deposited in separate trays, the StarCut Tube with its automatic tube loading system, is configured for several hours of lights-out production.

EasyMark II – the most compact desktop marker

With a footprint of only 600mm x 600mm the EasyMark series offers one of the most compact and complete laser marking solutions currently on the market.

Perfect biocompatible markings can be generated on most metal and plastic surfaces in almost no time at all. The laser requires only one, single-phase power supply and does not require external cooling or additional services.

The Visual Laser Marker control (VLM) software allows the user to design and transfer information to be marked including standard fixed text elements (all True type fonts can be used), consecutive numbering, logos and graphics etc.
