New GEM Topaz helps crystalise energy savings
Energy savings of up to 55% are achievable by steam users with Gardner Energy Management’s (GEM) Topaz steam trap range. A development of GEM’s award winning venturi steam trap, the GEM Topaz has been specifically produced for Clean Steam Systems used in hospitals and pharmaceuticals for sterilises and sterilisation.
Unlike other steam traps, the GEM Topaz range is easy to clean and are totally consistent and reliable, a key factor for sterilisation lines. Machined from 316L stainless steel and are flanged for either Dockweiler or Triclover clamp fittings. Compact and easy to fit the Topaz traps have an overall length of 55mm for the two smaller sizes rising to 65mm for the 25mm diameter steam trap. They are machined with rounded internal shoulders to prevent any possible bacterial build up.

Available in 15mm, 20mm and 25mm diameters the hardwearing GEM Topaz is manufactured from 316-corrosion resistant stainless steel and is guaranteed for 10 years, obviating the need for repair or replacement. The steam traps have been designed to withstand pressures up to 10 bar (145 psi) at 200°C due to the rating of the Dockweiler or Triclover clamps.

Instead of utilising a valve mechanism to close off steam for maximum energy and water conservation, the highly efficient GEM Topaz uses the patented venturi orifice design to effectively drain condensate from the steam system. As the GEM Topaz has no moving parts to wedge open or fail, it provides the ultimate in reliability necessitating only minimal maintenance and requiring no spares, testing or monitoring equipment.

The GEM Topaz provides a fast payback - on some processes within a matter of days - from reduced energy costs and increased equipment reliability due to a reduction in damaging condensate in steam systems. In addition it improves product processing by enhancing the quality of steam and also reducing equipment repairs, downtime and replacement costs.

The rising cost of fuel is coupled with a raft of regulations concerning energy conservation and carbon emissions. Yet it is calculated that British industry wastes an astonishing GBP 3 billion a year in energy costs purely through steam loss caused by mechanical steam traps leaking precious steam when open or backing up condensate. With the GEM Topaz there is no steam loss through a trap, fuel is conserved, reliability improved, downtime reduced and safety increased
