MSP supplies grains to more than 2,000 farms in north east England, southern Scotland and the borders region, many of whom provide malting barley to Simpsons Malt. MSP were also a long-term user of a Chronos Richardson E55 nett weighing system, which was filling FIBCs using a multi-tipping configuration.
The new high speed weigh-filling system was ordered in March 2008 as part of a major plant upgrade that involved a major reconfiguration of the filling area and the installation of new bulk intake silos. This work was project managed in partnership with York based ISF Ltd, with the equipment being installed and commissioned by Chronos engineers during autumn 2008.
At the heart of the new system is a Chronos Richardson AW301 bulk weigher that is controlled by a SpeedAC NXT high accuracy weighing control system. Multiple high capacity weighments of treated seeds are discharged into single loop FIBCs, which have capacities ranging from 500 to 1200kg.
To ensure optimum filling outputs are maintained, the system incorporates a bag inflation system and an indexing takeaway conveyor to efficiently remove filled bags from the weighing station.
“The weighing equipment and other new upgrade machines have really settled down and have helped streamline our packing process”, commented Steve Park at MSP. He concluded “This has in turn given us a 15% to 20% increase in daily production, which was the target area we wanted to achieve”.
