New 3-Axis Machining Centre For Mouldmakers
A new, 3-axis, vertical-spindle machining centre has been introduced by Okuma for tool and mould makers that require repeatable accuracy down to microns. Availability in the UK is through sole agent, NCMT. Having a compact footprint (2.281 x 2.736 m), the 7-tonne MP-46 V supports workpieces on a 760 mm x 460 mm table and has linear travels of X 660 mm, Y 460 mm and Z 360 mm, with 24 m/min rapid traverse in each.
As with all new machine models introduced by Okuma, the manufacturer's Thermo-Friendly Concept has been integrated, based on symmetrical construction, embedded sensors, control algorithms and compensation for the influence of temperature fluctuations on kinematics and machine spindle. In addition, temperature controlled ballscrews in all linear axes contribute to thermal stability and precision in continuous operation.

The MP-46 V is controlled by Okuma’s own OSP-P200M. In combination with the manufacturer's linear scales with 0.1-micron resolution and its Super-NURBS function, the machine achieves top precision and optimum contour accuracy without loss of dynamics. Integrated tool measurement is provided by a Blum laser sensor.

The 15 kW / 20,000 rpm HSK-63A spindle allows roughing, as well as finishing with very delicate tools. The spindle through-coolant is designed for 70 bar and the tool magazine has 32 stations.
