The first of these acquisitions is a 6m x 1m vertical machining centre that has now been installed at the company’s UK manufacturing headquarters in Tiverton. Three times faster and five times more powerful than existing machines, this addition enables HepcoMotion® to process larger sections more economically. Indeed it is already opening up new business opportunities for large ring segments for continuous motion systems, a field in which HepcoMotion® is already pre-eminent.
The 1m y-axis of this new machine also extends the scope for larger product machining whilst allowing HepcoMotion® to reduce the number of set-ups and thereby increase productivity. Not only does this enhance customer choice but also enables the company to reduce its lead times even more.
As bearing quality is a critical factor in the overall performance of HepcoMotion® products these components are manufactured in-house by BPC Limited, a Hepco Group company. Four new bearing grinding machines have recently been installed at its Braintree factory, acquisitions that will improve right-first-time processing and allow the company to machine to even tighter tolerances.
Again, these new machines bring the benefit of faster processing times so shorter lead time will result. This will speed the supply of bearings both to HepcoMotion® for inclusion in its linear motion systems and to BPC’s direct customers. These new machines support the company’s move into larger bearings – 150 sized products that provide customers with the ability to carry heavier loads.
