Heat and Cool from a single unit with Pfaudler’s TCU
Three Closed -Loop Thermal Control Units from Pfaudler are successfully controlling AE 2500 Reactors in a hazardous area for a leading manufacturer of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients in Sweden.
Complete with expansion tanks and control systems, the flexibility of Pfaudler’s modular-design TCU allows combinations of the primary heating and cooling services to be controlled by a single unit, utilising steam for heating and Glycol for cooling.

This single-fluid system, suitable for the heating and cooling of all types of jacketed vessels; from glass-lined and alloy reactors to filter driers, evaporators and condenser loops, benefits from smooth, continuous temperature control, with no gaps, because there are no fluid changeovers.

With no thermal shock to vessels and no interruption to processes, Pfaudler’s TCU (Direct Injection (DI), and Heating / Cooling (HC) virtually eliminates off-batches because it removes hot-spots, resulting in enhanced quality and an enhanced product yield. Because the yield is maximised without adding excess reactants, there are considerable savings to be made on expensive raw materials.

Suitable for the very cold operating temperatures required by today’s new chemical formulas and reactions, the repeatability and accurate recordable measurement of Pfaudler’s TCU meets FDA requirements and benefits from accurate temperature control to +/- 1º C without any risk to the reactor.

As standard, the TCU’s operate in the temperature range –29 º C to 200 º C, although the introduction of silicon-based thermal fluids has enabled Pfaudler to develop and provide units that allow heating to 400 º C and chilling to –100 º C.

The TCU’s can be designed to control specific exothermic and endothermic reactions, or be programmed to follow specific heating and cooling trends to match process requirements that will improve product quality and yield. Compared to conventional jacket services, TCU’s offer much improved batch-to-batch repeatability, often a requirement for FDA approval of processes
