Fertiliser packing output increased
In the first six months of this year PB Kent & Co has seen an increase of more than 20% in fertiliser packing at their Immingham Dock facility thanks to bagging equipment supplied by Nottingham based Chronos Richardson.
Two E55 high accuracy bagging weighers, discharge chutes and bag holders were installed at the PB Kent & Co facility in North East Lincolnshire during the Christmas 2007 shutdown. The equipment was integrated into an upgraded bag takeaway and palletising system, which is used to pack high-quality granular fertiliser and horticultural products.

Two gravity fed E55 automatic bagging weighers discharge 25kg weighments into plastic bags, which have been manually placed at the filling position by the operator. Each weigher is controlled by the world-leading SpeedAC NXT weighing controller, which ensures the optimum filling accuracy is achieved on every bag, thereby minimising product giveaway whilst complying with Weights & Measure regulations. The SpeedAC NXT has the Measuring Instrument Directive (MID) certificate of approval, which is an internationally recognised certificate that is accepted by 32 countries for a period of 10 years.

Both E55 weighers were fully fabricated in stainless steel to Chronos Richardson’s fertiliser specifications, which will ensure long-term reliable operation in the harsh dockside environment. The simple operation of the SpeedAC NXT weighing controllers enables the operators to easily change bagging programmes to accommodate additional contract packing requirements. This flexibility of operation allows other horticultural products to be bagged on the same packing lines.

Engineers from Chronos Richardson have worked closely with PB Kent & Co to ensure the smooth integration of the Chronos equipment into the upgraded bag takeaway and palletising system.
