ECO-FRIENDLY REMPLOY CHOOSE BREEZAIR FOR PRODUCTION LINE COOLING
When it came to finding an answer to controlling temperatures at its new £10.5 million factory in St. Helens, Lancashire, Remploy Household and Toiletries turned to CoSaf Environments to provide it with an effective cooling system. A Breezair Evaporative Air Cooling System, from exclusive distributors, CoSaf Environments, has been installed to provide effective cooling throughout the 3,000 square metres production facility
Remploy Household and Toiletries is a division of Remploy Ltd, the largest UK supplier of jobs for disabled people. The new state-of-the-art factory has 20 manufacturing lines, which has enabled the company to provide customers with a complete one-stop shop for personal care and household products.

During the summer months heat generated from production equipment such as shrink-wrap machines, built up on the factory floor, realizing the need to control temperatures and improve conditions, John Brogan, Project Engineering Manager at Remploy Household and Toiletries investigated various methods of cooling the premises and decided on the Breezair system as the most beneficial, ecological and economic to run. Following a site survey carried out by an engineer from CoSaf Environments it was agreed that the factory would require six Breezair coolers strategically placed on the outside of the factory which would enable cool fresh air to be introduced into the factory via galvanised ducting dropping vertically down with distribution ductwork and 2-way air grille diffuser directing air within the main production area. CoSaf also specified an extractor system to remove the hot, stale air from the production lines.

“Breezair was installed last autumn and we hope will make a tremendous difference to temperatures on the factory floor decreasing them by around 8°C”, says John Brogan. “The seven-day programmable wall control enables me to set the level of cooling required and then forget about it.”

The Breezair system is housed in a simple, clean, ultra-modern designed plastic casing specially developed to withstand all weather conditions. The Breezair's state-of-the-art components include an innovative water distribution system, which delivers continuous, balanced water coverage to all the pads. The world-patented system ensures maximum cooling efficiency and minimal maintenance problems.

An innovatively designed, aerodynamic fan provides a constant, even flow of air over the pads to provide a welcome cool breeze with minimal noise and low energy consumption. Other pioneering components include a highly efficient water pump that guarantees constant and reliable cooling when most needed, and a long lasting variable speed motor that gives maximum comfort level control.

“Refrigerated air conditioning, was unsuitable for this application as it was important to bring ventilation into the area and effect regular air changes”, said Mike Sullivan, Director of CoSaf Environments. “Although Remploy Household and Toilets primary concern was for the welfare of its employees, the energy saving costs and ecological benefits of Breezair cooling was a key factor in the company’s decision.”
