As part of a phased upgrade of the Askew & Barrett (Pulses) Limited factory in Wisbech, Cambs., Chronos BTH has supplied a new combined open-mouth bagging and FIBC filling system. The system is being used to pack a variety of pulses into 20-25kg bags or FIBCs. Currently the system operates on a manual basis but it has been designed to allow simple upgrade to automatic operation in the future.
An innovative feature of the system is the use of a diverting weigh hopper design, which is based on a pioneering design originally introduced to the market by sister company Richard Simon Limited. This diverting hopper allows weighments to be tipped on one side into the FIBC filling system and on the other side into the open-mouth bagging system.

The Askew & Barrett partnership was established in 1982, since when the company has grown to become one of the leading pulse specialists in the UK.

Production Director, Darryl Askew made the following comments about the packing room upgrade; “We mainly use the new system for filling big bags,” he concluded “ we are very happy with the packing line and it’s well on the way to paying for itself already!

Chronos BTH Limited incorporates Richard Simon Limited, Verville and Premier Tech Systems for European spares, refurbishments, service, installation and commissioning.
