Virtual Reality Welder Training From Kemppi
Learning to weld can be a very complex and costly exercise, involving much practical work using live welding on expensive equipment, power, consumables and materials, so MIG/MAG, MMA and TIG welding process training in a virtual reality environment from welding equipment manufacturers, Kemppi is one of the most cost effective ways to help train tomorrow’s welders.
The Kemppi ProTrainer is designed to manage the costs of learning by reducing material, consumable and power costs using a virtual welding and learning experience. Designed for use in educational establishments and company welder training facilities, Protrainer can increase the speed of the students learning curve by as much as 50% and reduce the cost of the training by up to 40%.

ProTrainer offers a very realistic virtual welding environment and simulates the welding process and parameters necessary to weld successfully. It uses real welding guns and torches, so gives the student a real feel for welding, but without the restrictions of welding helmets, thereby making communications between the student and teacher that much easier.

The system features a central server to manage communications between the ’trainer module’ and ’trainee module’. The ’trainer module’ provides user management tools, real-time follow up for monitoring and regulating the student’s progression, performance and results by both the teacher and student. The ’trainee module’, available as either a WORKBENCH or a LITE version, allows each student to select and work through defined welding exercises and to visualise and analyse their own personal work. The WORKBENCH versions is the hardware tool of ProTrainer with a high resolution wide screen display and comes equipped with real welding tools, while the LITE version, also provided with real welding tools, is a lightweight mobile trainer for use between training sites.

Mike Pixley, Managing Director at Kemppi said: ”Starting to weld first time can be daunting, because every student has to master the techniques of each welding process including gun, torch and electrode angles, travel speeds and weld pool control, plus positional techniques all of which require instruction and significant practice. ProTrainer is a very cost effective teaching tools as it provides students with the opportunity to practice his/her techniques before going live.”
