The Rockwool Group is a leading supplier of products and systems based on stone wool. It is a global leader in the insulation industry, its products ensure energy efficient and fire-safe buildings with good acoustics and a comfortable indoor climate. The Group also manufactures acoustic ceilings and cladding boards and its BuildDesk consultancy supports these businesses.
For Rockwool, the choice of FLIR Systems was clear. It consulted experts in thermal imaging and as the company’s Marketing Manager, Verena Pieper confirmed: “We are both technology leaders in our respective markets and FLIR cameras are considered to be the best available. This is confirmed by the feedback from our training participants. Some bring their own cameras and nine times out of ten it’s the FLIR brand.”
Although Rockwool acknowledges that FLIR cameras are very user friendly, images need to be interpreted correctly to achieve a meaningful result. Verena Pieper continued: “That is why we started this project in the first place, we wanted to ensure our customers use this technology properly. You need to understand both thermal physics and the camera properties. In other words you have to know what you are doing.”
The courses are being run by an independent thermographer, Daniel Jung, in conjunction with the FLIR Infrared Training Centre and are designed to complement the ITC certification curriculum. They provide application-specific training for the building professional and, in the long term, it is hoped that the initiative will help to build a network of expert thermographers able to pool their knowledge and experience.
