Star To Launch Three New Mill-turn Centres At October Open House
Star Micronics GB will hold an open house at its headquarters and technical centre in Melbourne, Derbyshire, from 12th to 14th October 2010. Opening times will be 8.00 am to 5.00 pm each day except on Wednesday 13th, when the show will run until 9.00 pm and include a traditional Star supper.
Three new multi-axis mill-turning centres will be on show for the first time in the UK, having made their European debuts at the AMB exhibition in Stuttgart two weeks earlier.

SF-25 is a compact, 25 mm capacity sliding-head turning centre intended for manufacturing complex medical, aerospace and automotive components. The machine is equipped with a 10-station turret and an additional tool spindle complete with 24-station automatic tool changer, facilitating reduced cycle times when producing complex mill-turned components.

Until now a manufacturer of exclusively sliding-head lathes, Star will introduce its first fixed-headstock bar automatic, the SG-42. Intended for the manufacture of complex components up to 42 mm diameter, the 6-axis machine features C-axis on both main and counter spindles. There is full commonality of spares and control system across the entire Star range of fixed-head and sliding-head lathes.

SB-20C is the latest model in the manufacturer’s popular SB series of sliding-headstock lathes. The early-entry, 20 mm bar machine replaces the SB-16E, in common with which it offers 35 m/min rapids to guarantee short non-cutting times.

Bob Hunt, Managing Director, said, “This event is a must-see for all potential CNC mill-turn lathe users, as we extend our portfolio to cater for increased demands in the highly competitive turned parts arena.

“One of the main features is the development of the Star policy of interchangeability of constituent parts, toolholders and control technology across the expanded range.”

As usual when Star GB opens its doors to manufacturing industry, it will emphasise enabling products and services as well. Partner companies supporting the Open House will include LNS Turbo Systems with its range of swarf management systems; Emmaco, which will show equipment relating to high-speed spindles and process monitoring, PSL Datatrack, specialising in production management software; Pumps and Equipment with its latest models of high-pressure coolant systems; and suppliers of tooling, cutting oils, mist extraction equipment, automatic fire suppression and machine tool finance packages.
