Understanding the law, commerce and industry standards is essential. The UK based Chemical Business Association advises the chemical industry through its workshops.
The law, commerce and industry standards

As an addition to its programme of practical business workshops, the Chemical Business Association (CBA) has developed a new seminar which helps companies in the chemical supply chain to navigate the interactions between the law, commercial priorities and industry standards, such as product stewardship.

Peter Newport, CBA’s Director said, “The legal framework within which the chemical supply chain operates has become increasingly complex. Not only do companies have to negotiate commercial terms but they also must consider issues such as product liability, consumer protection and safeguarding intellectual property rights. In addition, over-arching activities such as product stewardship must also be taken into account.”

“So far as we know, CBA’s workshop is the first of its kind in Europe for distributors to bring these related issues together and provide a forum which helps companies understand the complexities involved and, at the same time, continue to safeguard human health and the environment by continuing to develop product stewardship in the chemical supply chain,” he added.

Legal, industry and insurance experts tackled a range of related topics which included:

· product stewardship

· product liability and product recalls

· environmental liability

· intellectual property

· competition law

· insurance and product stewardship

Andrew Raybould, Technical and Marketing Director of S Black Limited, a delegate at the CBA seminar said, “I found the day very useful as it provided an overall perspective on a range of subjects which have day-to-day relevance to all companies in the chemical supply chain. In practice, they have to be considered every time a purchase order is accepted, a product is delivered and an invoice is produced.”
