Parker provides leading edge fuel filtration for Round Britain Powerboat Race

The latest generation of marine fuel filtration technology from Parker Hannifin is being used in the Garmin Racing powerboat that will compete in the Round Britain Powerboat Race in June. Parker’s MAXMP 75000 marine turbine series filter pump will ensure that the vessel is able to achieve optimum performance and maximise its chance of victory.

The 2008 Round Britain Powerboat Race is the longest and arguably most challenging event for powerboat drivers anywhere in the world. The endurance race features some legs of well over 200 nautical miles through some extremely difficult seas; testing both crews and their boats to the limit.

The Garmin Racing powerboat will be driven by Iain May, a camera man for Top Gear, while the show’s presenter, James May, and DIY SOS personality, Nick Knowles, will also be part of the team. The vessel is a 39 foot boat with two EPS marine diesel onboard engines providing 900 horsepower. Effective filtration is essential to the smooth running of the engine in such extreme conditions, which is why Parker technology has been chosen. The MAXMP 75000 filter pump being used is part of the company’s proven marine turbine series, and will ensure contaminants are effectively filtered from the vessel’s fuel.

The 2008 Round Britain Powerboat Race will start on Saturday 21st June, with the fleet returning to Portsmouth on 30th June. The Garmin Racing powerboat will also be one of the star attractions at this year’s Sportsboat & RIB Show at the Hamble, and after the race, Garmin will compete in the Cowes-Torquay-Cowes Race at the end of August.
