New Marketing Manager Sees Bright Future

Amaechi Oduah has joined Mitsubishi Electric Automation Systems Division to head up its marketing and communications activities. He has over a decade’s experience in the telecommunications, electrical and electronic manufacturing sector and gained his education at the University of Greenwich. He explains that moving into automation was a strategic decision, as manufacturing is set to be one of the best growth sectors in the medium and long term.

“Growing up in London, there was an almost automatic assumption that a job in the City with a financial firm was the best career path. But that never appealed. I am above all a technophile and enjoy a keen enthusiasm for electronic gadgets and the latest and future technology trends. I want to be at the cutting edge of technology and that means being in the growth sectors and working for one of the market leaders like Mitsubishi Electric.

“The critical thing about automation is not what the individual products and technologies can do but how much more they can do when they are designed into a fully integrated system. So automation is about understanding the clients’ issues and developing solutions that not only solve current problems but which will evolve to meet their changing needs and demands.”

Amaechi’s new colleagues have also discovered his other passion – sport, particularly football. If there is one thing he likes better than talking about sport, its joining in. “I’m not bad at football and will give most sports a go, although I’m not as fit as I used to be!”

Outside work Amaechi is a committed youth worker. He ran a youth club in an inner city area for several years that provided teenagers with a constructive and safe environment to hang out. He participates in school career talks and mentors young people. “My professional skills have also come in useful for fundraising for youth projects. As well as sports equipment, we have bought a minibus and organised an exchange trip with a group in Sweden. I’m currently helping to raise funds for a group of 14-18 year olds from London to go to India to work with street kids in Pune and Mumbai”
