IDC launches new, innovative ZigBee wireless key fob with an audible alarm and built- in position location engine
Intelligent Distributed Controls has added the ZB101 Personal Interactive Key Fob to its range of ZigBee wireless communication products. The Key Fob is a compactly designed remote push button and alarm which is ideal for personnel tracking in hazardous working conditions, as found in remote substations and marine industries. The Key Fob has a built in alarm and tracking system and up to five push buttons with varying operations; it offers the advantage of extremely low power consumption meaning that its two lithium coin batteries will last over a million operations.
The ZB101 Personal Interactive Key Fob is a compactly designed remote push button and alarm using a wireless ZigBee network. It operates at 2.4GHz on a licence free IEEE 802.15.4 international standard. The Key Fob employs the latest microprocessor-based hardware in a conveniently sized key fob with a lone worker call button and internal buzzer. It uses bi-directional message routing between remote access points and centralised IT facilities, and is able to operate in electrically noisy industrial environments using low cost, low power robust networks.

The ZB101 is ideal for keeping track of personnel operating in hazardous areas. Equipped with personal call buttons and able to operate on an event driven basis or at regular reporting intervals the Key Fob is an ideal host for the Simplitrack personnel tracking software designed by IDC, which includes a 3-D tracking system as well as an accelerometer, which is capable of alerting the system during a fall.

The Key Fob is provided with power management modes, enabling the units to lie dormant to conserve energy; this feature ensures a battery life of many years. Other features include true system- on- chip solutions (SoC), LED indication for battery healthy, transmit and receive signal active, built in position location engine and an on board temperature and battery monitor. The Key Fob can “sleep” for 99(percent) of the time and has an operating temperature ranging between -20 degreesC and +55 degreesC.
