EEF’s Region Director wins National award at Forward Ladies event

Charlotte Horobin, EEF’s Region Director for the Midlands and East won the prestigious Emerging Leader award at the Forward Ladies National Awards and Summit 2018, sponsored by HSBC UK in Leeds on the 7th December. The National Awards were introduced nine years ago to acknowledge and promote the fact that women are increasingly an integral and invaluable part of every business across the UK. This year, Forward Ladies continues to recognise and honour the most respected businesswomen, across a wide range of business categories.

Charlotte joined EEF over five years ago and has since risen through the organisation to her current role of Regional Director. Charlotte is responsible for managing and developing relationships with EEF member companies in the Midlands and East of England. By working with partner organisations and regional media, Charlotte is able to raise the profile of EEF member companies locally and nationally. She’s also in charge of designing and delivering a programme of regional events which enable members to network, share best practice and learn from experts.

Before joining EEF, Charlotte worked in food manufacturing where she focused on business development and food safety management.

Forward Ladies Managing Director Griselda Togobo said: “The programme to showcase role models and inspirational leadership is in its ninth year and we are once again delighted to highlight the best women-led businesses and male agents of change, championing diversity in their respective regions.

Whilst we have clearly made progress over the years, little advancement has been made in bringing diversity to leadership roles. By working together: employers, the government, support networks and the women ourselves, we can bridge the gap quicker – achieving diversity is not an option, it is necessary for our competitiveness as a nation.”

Charlotte Horobin, Region Director for the Midlands and East said: “I’m absolutely delighted to win this award and to be recognised nationally. I truly enjoy my role as I get to visit and promote the manufacturing sector across the Midlands and East of England, which is incredibly captivating and important for the region.”

“On a daily basis I visit manufacturers that play important roles in both their local areas and across the globe. I can’t think of a similar role whereby I can visit a pie manufacturer in the morning, a highly complex engine creator in the afternoon and top it off by visiting a maker of composite materials towards the end of the day.

EEF has allowed me to flourish through both a structured mentoring programme and support from colleagues across the wider business. To win personal recognition like this is thrilling.”
