AGY has announced plans to exit the Lot Glass business. AGY’s glass fiber Lot Glass yarn is used as reinforcement for high silica fabrics in both aerospace and military applications where traceability is of key importance. The determining factor, explained Drew Walker, AGY Vice President of Sales and Marketing, was the significant decline in demand for Lot Glass G150 during the past year. With the termination of the space shuttle program, AGY has no expectation of improvement in coming years. “With limited forecast volume expected from key users,” he explained, “AGY has made the decision to exit the Lot Glass business.”
Based on the lower demand, AGY says it can no longer justify the costs of supporting the Lot Glass product line. “As such, we will be depleting our inventory of Lot 62 marbles used to make Lot Glass G150 as quickly as possible,” explained Walker. “We will also be actively looking for outlets to deplete our finite inventory of G150 4/0 4Z Lot Glass, on a first come first served basis. We would encourage customers who have a need for the product to purchase inventory while it is still available. They should order enough to cover the time needed to qualify another solution.”
