Metso will supply an innovative superheater corrosion management solution to TAURON Cieplo sp. z o.o's CHP plant in Tychy, Poland, in cooperation with Valmet. The solution enables the power plant to extend the lifetime of its superheater in the 35 MWe unit's biomass-fired bubbling fluidized bed boiler, maximize fuel flexibility, optimize fuel economy and lower its environmental impact.

Metso has been awarded an order by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. to modernize the complete vessel-wide automation system of its cruise ship Voyager of the Seas. The system controls and monitors all vital machinery on the ship, such as diesel generators, power management and air conditioning. The upgraded system will contribute to the reliable and safe operation of the ship for years to come, as well as enable Royal Caribbean to save energy and support sustainability.

An automated laboratory analyser, which classifies and measures fiber furnish characteristics, has been launched by Metso. Optimising paper, board or tissue production, the system opens new windows to increase productivity and profitability through better raw material utilisation, improved sustainability and low production costs. 

A flow control technology has been supplied to PETRONAS Gas Berhad by Metso. Supplied to the company's gas processing plant modernisation project in Kerteh, Malaysia, Metso's flow control solutions will replace the plant's existing equipment. This will enable the plant to reach a higher safety integrity level while improving its environmental performance. The order includes over 140 actuated on-off and emergency shutdown (ESD) ball and butterfly valves. 

Sierra Gorda Sociedad Contractual Minera has chosen Metso to supply state-of-the-art control and on/off valves to the Sierra Gorda copper/molybdenum mining project which is currently under construction in the Atacama Desert in Antofagasta region, North of Chile. The valves will be used to control the flow of process and make-up water for a variety of applications in the mine.

Heurtey Petrochem has selected Metso to supply its high-performance Jamesbury on/off valves for an upgrade and expansion project at the Tuapse refinery situated in the Krasnodar region on the Black Sea coast in Russia. Metso will be the main on-off valves supplier to Heurtey Petrochem, which has been contracted to manufacture and supply refining heaters.

Metso has developed the Metso MR Moisture Analyzer that features fast and reliable moisture measurement with a large sample volume. In power generation, fuel moisture is the main property measured. Oven drying has been the conventional standard for measuring moisture in biofuels.

The new Metso Fibre Image Analyser (Metso FS5) expands the horizons of laboratory testing fibre samples, enabling pulp and paper mills to unlock the true value potential of their raw material for optimum end product quality. Enhanced accuracy, reliability and speed of fibre measurement offer a variety of possibilities for improved competitiveness thanks to better control of raw material treatment and quality.

Metso has opened a new Automation service center in Ratchaburi, Thailand. The service center supports Metso’s strategy to grow its Automation business globally and strengthens Metso’s service capabilities in Thailand.

Helsinki-2012 was a banner year at the Metso Flow Laboratory, where a corporate initiative to increase the numbers of valves certified to the most stringent environmental emissions standards continues. In 2012, numerous Neles metal-seated and Jamesbury soft-seated valve products were certified to meet the requirements of the global ISO15848-1 standard, complying with many standards mandated in specific regions, including TA-Luft (Germany) and EPA 40 CFR parts 60/63 (USA).
