A mobile laser power meter, PRONTO-Si, was featured at SENSOR+TEST by Laser Components. The device has a robust, easy-to-handle housing and the operation via self-explanatory symbols on an illuminated, touch-sensitive colour display is intuitive. When this compact device is folded up, both the sensor and the colour touchscreen display are optimally protected.

At OTC, the largest US oil and gas show, E2S Warning Signals are launching three major new families added to its portfolio of more than 250 different explosion proof and intrinsically safe warning devices for use in hazardous locations. The new ‘D1x’ range of alarm horns, PA loudspeakers and integrated alarm horn/Xenon strobe warning units employ the latest electronic technology and acoustic engineering in robust, marine grade, LM6 aluminium enclosures. Designed to create the most effective warning signals available for use in Class I/II Division 1, Zone 1 & Zone 20 environments, the UL/cULs approved alarm horns and combined units are available with traditional directional flare horns or omni-directional radial horns that generate a uniform 360° sound dispersion. 

Michael Tonks, assistant professor of mechanical and nuclear engineering, Penn State, and director, Microstructure Science and Engineering Laboratory, Penn State, is involved with three projects through the Department of Energy's Nuclear Energy University Program (NEUP). These projects are exploring new materials for nuclear fuel, which could make current LWRs safer.

Scott Safety have injected significant investment into the latest robotic technology to deliver impeccable quality control and eliminate ´human error´ from respirator filter production. This is especially critical to particulate filters where errors could mean a matter of life or death to asbestos removers.  Every single filter is meticulously checked for the minutest defect using an advanced vision system which measures part type and position.  The pen is tested using an inline ATI tester penetration level, carbon height and even whether the right lid is placed on the right filter.The system takes photographs of the filters at multiple points during production and digitally compares them to a flawless filter, instantly rejecting those that show signs of defects. As a result of implementing this versatile form of automation and setting tight criteria for rejection, Scott Safety consistently produces filters that exceed the industry standard for quality.
