Lead screws and ball screws
Thomson BSA is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of lead screws and ball screws. Its expertise in the design and application of these positioning components is unmatched and now its wealth of knowledge and extensive product programme are available from Huco Dynatork.
Lead screws have been supplied by Huco Dynatork in component form or as part of sub-assemblies for many years. The breadth of its range however has been only fractional by comparison with what is now available. The introduction of the Thomson BSA range instantly enables Huco Dynatork to provide a lead screw or ball screw to suit virtually every application, either for immediate dispatch or on short lead time. The relationship also gives Huco Dynatork customers access to Thomson BSA’s rapid prototyping and design consultancy service for custom products.

With lead accuracy to less than .25mm/m and straightness to .42mm/m Thomson BSA lead screws ensure precision positioning. They offer the best combination of hardness, wear resistance, malleability and machinability. Their superior surface finish dramatically reduces wear on the nut in the lead screw assembly. Available in Imperial and metric diameters from 3/16th to 3 inches and 6mm – 24mm, in lengths to suit the application and with leads ranging from .012 to 2 inches and .3mm to 50.8mm, most products are available ex-stock.

A variety of lead screw nuts complement the lead screws, from standard thread-mount to superior anti-backlash versions. These use a stainless steel cam to ensure the nut halves are constantly in contact with both flanks of the screw thread. This is achieved without compromising low torque and drag. As a result every movement is both exact and repeatable.

Lead screws are cost-efficient without sacrificing accuracy or strength. Designed for light or medium-duty applications, the lead screw assemblies generate less heat and operate more efficiently than their competitors and are ideal for systems that do not require the characteristics of a ball screw.

For additional accuracy and driving heavier loads, Huco Dynatork can now offer a solution from the Thomson BSA ball screw series. Again a vast choice of diameters and leads is available and if the application requirements cannot be met from the standard range, a special may be specified. Precision rolled assemblies diameters are from 3/8th to 4 inches, their miniature counterparts from 4mm to 14mm and ground ball screw assemblies from 16mm to 50mm. Naturally the assembly can be tailored to meet precise application needs from a range of options including nuts, return tubes, flanges and wiper kits.

Huco Dynatork can also help customers bring new products to market quickly through the Thomson BSA rapid prototyping service for lead screw and ball screw assemblies. Most prototypes can be produced within two weeks and for more standard designs turn-round can be as little as a day.
